
On April 13, the 13th Liguang Cup Go Tournament was finished in the Sheraton Hotel in Haikou, China. The final result is Zhou Ruiyang, playing black, beat Tang Weixing after 167 moves and received the title of the Liguang Cup champion for the first time. The prize money was set at 250,000 RMB. Tang Weixing got 100,000 RMB for his second place. This is the second time for Zhou Ruiyang to win a champion title in a national tournament. See the final game with comments by Chang Hao 9p, here!
The Liguang Cup
The Liguang Cup is sponsored by Ricoh Inc. of Hong Kong, it is mainly an invitational tournament. In the first year, only 8 players participated. Because of its success, in the second year, the number of participants increased to 16, in the third year the number reached 54.
Zhou Ruiyang
Zhou Ruiyang has long been considered a go prodigy and in 2006 at the age of 15 he was the youngest ever to challenge for the Tianyuan title, losing then to Gu Li, 9p. Even though he is regarded as one of the strongest players in China he had failed to take any international titles until earlier this year when he won the 1st Bailing Cup and got promoted to 9p.
