- In 1928, came to Japan.
- In 1929, awarded 3 dan by the Nihon Kiin.
- In 1933, he and Kitani Minoru together developed the "New Fuseki" (Shin Fuseki), at the same year he won the Nihon Kiin Championship and played a memorable game with Honinbo Shusai Meijin.
- In 1939, he started ten game match with Kitani Minoru and won the match by 6:4. This was the start of a brilliant match career in which he defeated all the top
players in Japan successively: Karigane Junichi 8 dan, in 1942; Hashimoto Utaro
8 dan in 1946; Honinbo Iwamoto Kaoru 8 dan in 1948; Fujisawa Kuranosuke twice in 1951 and 1953; Sakata Eio 8 dan in 1954 and Honinbo Takagawa Kaku 8 dan in 1955.
- In 1950, advanced to 9 dan pro.
- Won 1st & 3rd Japan Strongest Titles in 1958 and 1961 respectively.
- In 1967, winner of the Okura Prize in 1967.
- Won the Oteai 6 times.
- In 1983, he retired officially.
- He is well-known as founder of modern go.
- On Nov. 2002, a new film and TV series about Go Seigen will begin to shoot in China by very famous directors, the film name is called 'Go Saint Wu Qingyuan'. At the age of 88, Go Seigen met with the directors in Beijing, China, and said he will live up to 100 and finish the film.
